Girl Scouts fill birthday closet (Cedar Rapids) – When the girls in Girl Scout Troop 8715 realized that some kids don’t receive birthday presents due to a variety of reasons, they took matters into their own hands.

This group of fifth graders from Prairie solicited for cash donations.  Then, with more than $1,000 raised, they had the needed funds to purchase a wide assortment of birthday gifts for kids and youth of all ages.  Their efforts resulted in earning the Bronze Award, which is the highest award for Junior Girl Scouts.

The gifts will be given to kids in residential treatment or those from families that may not have the financial resources to purchase birthday presents.
