(Cedar Rapids) Terry Becker is the 2009 recipient of the James L. Hoel Memorial Award.
Based on nominations from co-workers, the annual award recognizes an individual who demonstrates a deep personal and professional commitment to the mission, pride in their work with kids and families, and the highest respect from their peers and supervisors. Becker, who has been in charge of the Suspension program since it opened, has been with Four Oaks since 1992.
Terry’s supervisor, Marie Connor, noted in her nomination, “Four Oaks hired Terry on April 25, 1992 and he has been one of those “people in the trenches” ever since. Terry understands treatment concepts and is committed to the work we do with our kids and families.”
Jim Hoel was a great source of inspiration for the Four Oaks family as a champion and advocate for children and families struggling to succeed. His dedication to the children he served was matched only by his love and loyalty to his family and co-workers. This annual award honors Jim’s life, work, love and passion by recognizing a Four Oaks staff member who exemplifies Jim’s legacy. Jim Hoel joined the Four Oaks family in 1987 and passed away unexpectedly in 2003.
Past winners are Carlyn McGill in 2005, Julie Kurtz in 2006, and Mike Zaiser in 2007.
