||The Four Oaks Parents as Teachers program is a free, voluntary, family education and support program designed to provide practical, timely information to all families on child development. The program is available to anyone who has a child prenatal to age 5 and lives in Dubuque County. Parents as Teachers is based on the truths that parents are the first and most influential teachers of their children and that the early years lay the foundation for a childs life.
Parents as Teachers offers 4 components to families: personal home visits by a credentialed parent educator trained in child development, group meetings which create opportunities for parents to share success and common concerns about their children's behavior and development, developmental screenings reassure parents when their child is developing on target and identify problems early to assist parents with appropriate interventions, and resource network by helping parents link with other resources in the community.
This individual will provide in home education and support to parents of children birth - 5 years in Dubuque County using the Parents as Teachers and Family Support models. The ability and experience connecting and working with parents and children, awareness of community resources, knowledge of childrens health and developmental stages, as well as a willingness to work with children with special needs is preferred. Must be flexible, nonjudgmental and possess strong written and verbal skills. Candidate must have the ability and willingness to attend trainings for certification, have a valid drivers license and a BA or BS in the human services field or education.
