Before beginning an internship/practicum, students are interviewed by the staff person who would serve as their supervisor. The field instructor from their respective college/university acts as a liaison between the agency and the school. If the student is placed, one professional is assigned as the primary practicum instructor. The student is briefed about the facility, cleared for confidentiality and a personnel record is maintained.
An internship/practicum is entered into contractually among the field instructor, the student and the Four Oaks supervisor. Areas covered during an internship/practicum are tailored to the student's needs and the program's needs. Experiences may include individual counseling, group counseling, co-facilitation or attending team meetings.
